Standing on the Shoulders of Giants

Standing on the shoulders of giants is a term that means “using the knowledge of great thinkers who have gone before to succeed intellectually.” This idea was traced back to the 12th century, ascribed to Bernard de Chartres. Isaac Newton’s most familiar expression in English was in 1675: “If I saw more, it was by standing on giants’ shoulders.”
