His story

A career built on care and community

Dr. Onyeisi Stephen Ogbomeh is a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-C), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-BC), and U.S. Army veteran who serves as President and CEO of SteveWorld Outreach. His life is a testament to the power of faith, resilience, and the belief that your current situation does not dictate your final destination.

Born in Nigeria into a family so impoverished that even the poor called them poor, Dr. Ogbomeh is one of six children and the twin brother of his parents’ last born. He grew up knowing the gnawing pain of hunger. By age 12, he was working construction sites under the scorching sun and serving as a bus conductor just to help his family survive. During those grueling days, covered in dust and sweat, he whispered a desperate prayer to God: “Oh Lord, help me. Bless me so I can take care of my family, my community, and the world at large. Help me so that poor people can have hope and eat at least one good meal a day.” That prayer became the founding charter of SteveWorld Outreach.

In the midst of hardship, Dr. Ogbomeh found solace in music. With no formal training, he taught himself to play the drums, then the piano, and began serving as a drummer and pianist in his local church. Music became his refuge and a lifeline for his family – the church community supported him with gifts that helped put food on their table. Those early lessons in leadership and community service planted seeds that would one day grow into SteveWorld’s mission of translating music into health outcomes.

In 2005, by the mercies of Jehovah Ebenezer – “The Lord My Helper” – Dr. Ogbomeh won the American Visa Lottery. In September 2007, at age 24, he arrived in America with little money but carried the weight of his family’s hopes and a prayer of a hungry child. In January 2008, he started at the very bottom of the healthcare ladder as a Certified Nursing Assistant. He was determined to climb.

Over the next 11 years of relentless academic pursuit, Dr. Ogbomeh earned his Associate Degree in Nursing (2012), Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Purdue University Northwest (2014), Master of Science in Nursing from Grand Canyon University (2016), Doctor of Nursing Practice from Grand Canyon University (2018), Post-Masters Family Nurse Practitioner certificate from Herzing University (2019), and Post-Doctorate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certificate from Liberty University (2026) – all while maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA and working full-time as a registered nurse and leading hospital units.

He fulfilled his childhood promise by serving his adopted country as an Active Duty Family Nurse Practitioner in the United States Army, providing primary care to the soldiers and families who protect our freedom. He has held every title in nursing – Staff Nurse, Charge Nurse, Nurse Supervisor, Nurse Manager, Director, and now Doctor and Nurse Practitioner – and was honored with the ANA-Illinois “40 Under 40 Emerging Nurse Leader” Award in 2019 for his leadership and dedication to quality care.

Beyond the titles and degrees, Dr. Ogbomeh is a proud, loving father to his children, currently ages 13 through 15. They are his greatest motivation. Every step he takes in building SteveWorld Outreach is a step to ensure they never experience the crushing hunger, demeaning labor, or crippling hopelessness he knew as a child – and to build a better world for all children who still face those struggles.

Dr. Ogbomeh also serves as founder of Reassure Health , a psychiatric practice providing virtual mental health care across Illinois, Texas, and Wisconsin. As a veteran in recovery from his own battles with depression, anxiety, and PTSD, he brings both clinical expertise and lived experience to his work. Dr. Ogbomeh is a living testimony that your current situation does not dictate your final destination. If God can take a poor bus conductor from Nigeria and turn him into a Doctor in the United States Army, He can do immeasurably more through the mission of SteveWorld Outreach.

All glory, honor, and praise belong to Jehovah Ebenezer – “The Lord Our Helper.”

Very Respectfully

Dr. Ogbomeh
